A man is convicted by the Stockholm district court for unlawful threats after directing a death threat against Sweden's Radio CEO Cilla Benkö.
The man wrote the incitement "Shoot on the spot" directed at her in a large Facebook group. He is sentenced to day fines and must also pay a fee to the Crime Victim Fund.
"Unfortunately, we see that the public debate has hardened, which also affects the general tone. It is a responsibility for many to ensure that it is not normalized. We reported the threat as soon as it came to our knowledge and it is good that the law enforcement authorities proceeded and prosecuted the man and that he is convicted of the crime", says Cilla Benkö in a press release.
She also emphasizes that many at Sweden's Radio are exposed to threats and hate. The damages will be donated to Reporters Without Borders for the organization's work on journalists' safety.
