A 25-year-old man is being prosecuted for two rapes and one sexual assault that are suspected to have taken place at Akademiska Hospital in Uppsala, announces the Prosecution Authority.

The alleged crimes are said to have taken place in December 2021. According to the indictment, the man then performed acts comparable to sexual intercourse with a 50-year-old woman. The woman was being cared for at the time on an emergency ward.

The man worked for the hospital and was tasked with keeping an eye on the woman, but he was not medically trained. The evidence includes, among other things, the woman's testimony, hospital journal entries, and technical evidence.

"In my opinion, it is an aggravating circumstance that these rapes took place when she was seeking help and was so seriously ill that she needed emergency care. It has also been a matter of repeated assaults," says Assistant Prosecutor Karin Persson in a press release.

The man denies the crime.

Viktor Ekström, the security chief at Akademiska Hospital, tells TT that the hospital does not want to comment on the matter any further until the verdict has been handed down.
