After five years of major renovations following the extensive fire, the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is being unveiled to France's president. In a week, the landmark will be reopened to the general public.

Now the first images are coming of how the 850-year-old building looks inside. A sight that does not disappoint anyone, according to France's President Emmanuel Macron.

"Even more beautiful than before, in the renewed radiance from the blonde stones and the chapel's colors", said Macron in a statement released ahead of the visit.

During the weekend of 7-8 December, Notre Dame will officially be inaugurated and hold its first Sunday mass after the opening.

About 250 companies and hundreds of experts have restored the cathedral in what was called "the construction site of the century".

The restoration cost a total of almost 700 million euros.
