Earlier in the week, the USA introduced sanctions against the UN rapporteur. Albanese calls the decision "shocking" and says that she holds on to her view of the war.
The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has accused her of "shameful attempts" to bring American and Israeli officials to justice in the International Criminal Court (ICC). He has also accused her of anti-Semitism and of supporting terrorism.
"We will not tolerate these campaigns of political and economic warfare, which threaten our national interests and our sovereignty", Rubio wrote on social media earlier in the week.
So far, it has not been revealed what kind of sanctions the USA has or will introduce. Already in April this year, the US UN delegation demanded that Albanese leave her role.
The UN rapporteur has been one of the most vocal critics of Israel's warfare in Gaza. She has several times claimed that Israel's actions can be defined as genocide. She has also directed criticism against the American president Donald Trump's policy, particularly the idea of "taking over" the Gaza Strip that he launched at the beginning of February.
