The incoming president Donald Trump appointed on Monday the political hawk Stephen Miller as deputy chief for policy issues in his upcoming government.
The announcement came via a statement from Vice President J D Vance on X: "This is yet another fantastic choice by the president," he writes.
Miller is politically best known for his tough stance on migration issues, and he had a highly placed advisory role in the first Trump administration. Miller was one of those behind the proposals in 2018 to split thousands of migrant families in an attempt to deter migrants from coming to the USA.
The announcement of Miller's position in the new government came hours after Trump nominated Representative Elise Stefanik to UN Ambassador.
"I am honored to nominate Chairman Elise Stefanik to serve in my government as the US Ambassador to the UN. Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart 'America first' fighter," said Trump in a statement to the New York Post.
Stefanik is a loyal Trump supporter from the party's right wing. She says in a statement that she is honored by the appointment.
"During my conversation with President Trump, I shared how deeply humbled I am to accept his nomination and I look forward to receiving support from my colleagues in the US Senate," said Stefanik in a statement.
