There has been a storm in Alingsås since an investigation of the municipal council's chairman Daniel Filipsson and the municipal council's vice chairman Simon Waern was published by Göteborgs-Posten earlier in the week.
In connection with the investigation, the politicians resigned from all their assignments within municipal politics with immediate effect. On Friday, the Social Democrats announced that Waern would also be leaving the party in consultation with the regional association.
A few hours later, the Moderate Party in Västra Götaland announced that Daniel Filipsson would also be leaving his party.
How much the municipal leaders receive
At the same time, Alingsås Tidning reports that Filipsson will receive 24 months' severance pay and transition compensation – a total amount of nearly 1.8 million kronor.
Simon Waern, in turn, will receive 85 percent of his monthly salary for 18 months, giving him over 1 million kronor.
Göteborgs-Posten has mapped out in its investigation how the municipal leaders have acted behind the scenes.
Together with a former politician from the Left Party, Filipsson and Waern had a secret group chat.
"Lack of judgment"
The tone in the messages is scornful and sexist, and both politicians and officials are badmouthed. Everything is mixed with concrete political proposals while they share party secrets with each other, according to GP.
Aylin Nouri, chairman of the Social Democrats in the Göteborg area, on Waern's actions:
"He has not only shown a lack of judgment but also broken with the values one must stand up for as a representative of our party", she says to TV4 News.
