In a statement released after the tribute was played, his family calls the death a "indescribable tragedy" and criticizes the attention and speculation that have occurred in connection with the event, reports Sky News.
The coverage, writes the family, "has caused an indescribable, lasting damage to the family, especially for Liam's son who is trying to process emotions that no seven-year-old should have to experience".
The family also says that they accept the Argentine appeals court's decision to drop the charges against several people accused of Payne's death. Two people suspected of providing Payne with drugs are still detained awaiting trial.
Liam Payne fell to his death from the balcony of the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16 last year. The police found drugs in his hotel room and a forensic examination showed that he had traces of alcohol, cocaine, and prescription antidepressants in his body.
