13 people are being prosecuted at Luleå District Court for gross benefit fraud. The individuals are suspected of assistance fraud, where alleged work was never performed or greatly exaggerated, according to a press release from the Prosecution Authority.
The fraud is believed to have taken place from February 2020 to February 2024.
The Swedish Social Insurance Agency has, according to prosecutor Sara Modig Berlin, incorrectly paid out over 6.5 million kronor in assistance allowance during the period.
"Several people have pretended to work as personal assistants, despite never performing such work or greatly exaggerating their work effort", she says in a comment.
Both the principal and several of the assistants have, according to Modig Berlin, ties to a well-known motorcycle organization. The evidence includes, among other things, phone tapping of the principal.
