The Social Democrats have dismissed the board of Kombispel, the party's lottery company, and have stopped using telephone sales. This after Dagens Nyheter revealed that party lottery tickets are being sold to elderly and confused people using questionable methods via a telemarketing company operating in Barcelona.
Ulf Kristersson (The Moderate Party) calls the whole thing a spectacle.
It's absurd that when Sweden is trying to mobilize against elderly fraud, often from Spain, the Social Democrats are making themselves part of the problem, he says during a press conference.
On Friday, party secretary Tobias Baudin (S) announced that the board had forfeited its trust and had failed to control the sale of lottery tickets.
The party's treasurer Joakim Jonsson and Member of Parliament and Vice Group Leader Johan Löfstrand are two of the people being asked to leave the board.
The board also included the youth association SSU's secretary Diyar Cicek and the defense policy spokesperson Nicole Ilias. They have left the board but still have confidence within the association, according to SSU.
Kristersson believes that the Social Democrats still have many questions to answer.
Put all the cards on the table, explain how you're going to solve this, he says.
TT has sought out several leading representatives of the Social Democrats, including party leader Magdalena Andersson, who have not returned comments. SSU has declined an interview.
