A regime-critical journalist from Kazakhstan was shot and seriously injured in Ukraine's capital Kiev on Tuesday, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The opposition blogger Ajdos Sadykov, a well-known critic of Kazakhstan's President Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, was attacked near his home, his wife announced on social media.
"In Kiev today, near his own home, an assassination attempt was made on Ajdos Sadykov", Natalia Sadykova wrote on social media.
Ajdos Sadykov, who has been wanted in his home country since last year, was granted asylum in Ukraine in 2014. He is now being treated in hospital with serious injuries.
Ukrainian authorities say they are trying to identify the perpetrator, who according to preliminary information jumped out in front of the car the couple were sitting in and fired a pistol.
