The Liberals' Member of the European Parliament Karin Karlsbro (L) is to lead the EU negotiations on multi-billion support to Ukraine from frozen Russian assets.
The assignment as standing rapporteur (the European Parliament's chief negotiator) for Ukraine in the International Trade Committee (INTA) means that Karlsbro will be responsible for all matters related to economic issues with Ukraine during the mandate period 2024-2029, writes The Liberals in a press release.
"We have talked about it for a long time, but it is now that we really have the opportunity to make Russia pay for the reconstruction of Ukraine on a large scale. It is urgent to get decisions in place, and I will work for a swift process", says Karlsbro.
Her first matter concerns the cooperation that the EU Commission has proposed for the G7 countries on a loan to Ukraine of up to 45 billion euros, which is to be repaid with the yield from the frozen Russian assets.
