John Ahlberk is currently the Director-General of the Swedish Accident Investigation Authority, a position he has held since May 1, 2020. He has a background as a lawyer and has a judge's education.

Minister for Health and Social Affairs Acko Ankarberg Johansson (KD) highlights his background at a press conference on Monday.

We believe that you have many of the competencies needed at this stage that is now following for IVO.

At the press conference, both Ankarberg Johansson and Ahlberk raise the issue of criminal actors in healthcare as an increasingly important issue for IVO to work with.

That children and young people in foster care homes, who are there to receive support and help, instead become part of a criminal scheme where public resources generate criminal profits instead of care, is of course deeply problematic, says Ahlberk at the press conference.

Ahlberk takes over after Tommy Hansen, who has been the Acting Director-General since Sofia Wallström resigned in May 2024.

Jonas Bäckstrand becomes the Acting Director-General at the Swedish Accident Investigation Authority.
