It's not ideal weather for fireworks in Götaland and Svealand, says SMHI's meteorologist Linnea Rehn Wittskog.
SMHI is bringing forward the yellow warning for snowfall in Dalsland and northern Västergötland.
The snowfall is moving in from the southwest and will first affect northern Bohuslän and northern Västergötland.
The yellow warnings for snowfall have been issued for southern Svealand and northern Götaland. There may be between 5-15 centimeters of snow in the area, but in the evening the snowfall may turn into rain.
At midnight, the snowfall appears to have turned into rain in all of Götaland, while it is still snowing in Svealand, says Rehn Wittskog.
"Leave the car standing"
Where the snowfall turns into rain, there is a risk of slippery roads. SMHI is urging caution and adapting speed to road conditions.
In the areas where we have issued warnings, it's best to leave the car standing if possible. Black ice is not always visible, so think sensibly.
In the northern parts of the country, the weather will clear up, and in the southern parts, it will become windy with some strong gusts during the night.
Flood risk in western Sweden
New Year's Day will begin with a risk of flooding in parts of western Sweden. A yellow warning has been issued for Västra Götaland County, Halland County, Jönköping County, and Kronoberg County.
In connection with the precipitation area moving in, large quantities are expected, says Linnea Rehn Wittskog.
