Safieddine was supposed to have been killed in an air strike in the al-Dahiya area of Beirut about three weeks ago. In the attack, Ali Hussein Hazima, commander of Hizbollah's intelligence headquarters, was also killed, according to Israeli military sources.

"Over 25 Hizbollah terrorists were inside Hizbollah's intelligence headquarters, including Bilal Saib Aish, who was responsible for air intelligence gathering in Syria," says the Israeli military in a statement.

The top leader of the Iran-backed Shia militia, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli bombing in Lebanon's capital Beirut on September 27. Safieddine was a cousin of Hassan Nasrallah.

Hizbollah has not yet commented on the statement.
