"The myth of the Israeli army's invincibility has become an empty slogan", claims Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani in a post on X, since Tehran-backed Hezbollah on Sunday fired hundreds of rockets and drones at northern Israel.
"The Israeli terrorist army has lost its effective offensive power and must now defend itself against strategic attacks", he continues.
Kanani also directs sharp criticism at the USA for their support to Israel.
According to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, the target of Sunday's attack was an Israeli military base near Tel Aviv. Before the movement fired any rockets, Israel launched airstrikes in Lebanon, where it allegedly destroyed "thousands" of Hezbollah's launch pads, according to Israeli sources.
Hezbollah's attack was said to be revenge for the death of its leader Fuad Shukr in July.
