The authorities in Iran have previously reported two military fatalities, and according to Israel, the attacks were directed at military targets. On Monday, the state news agencies report on the funeral of a civilian casualty, a named man who is said to have been killed in Israeli attacks near the capital Tehran.
On Saturday, Israel launched several air attacks on Iran, which were said to be a revenge for Iranian attacks on Israel a few weeks ago. The attacks were feared to escalate already high tensions in the region, but were later assessed to have been relatively limited in scope. So too from the Iranian side, which has been interpreted as a way to downplay their significance and the need for further revenge.
Iran will respond to the attacks, announces the Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei at a press conference:
We use all available means to respond to the Zionist regime's attacks in a decisive and effective manner.
