Dad Biden – the outgoing US president – is criticized in a report from David Weiss, the special prosecutor in the case against his son Hunter Biden. Joe Biden is accused of having discredited the Justice Department and its officials.
Hunter Biden was convicted of weapons possession and tax offenses, the latter of which he had admitted to, after the Justice Department brought charges against him. But he will not be punished, as the president recently pardoned his son. The pardon also applies to any future charges.
The charges against Hunter Biden were the culmination of a thorough, independent investigation, not partisan politics, writes David Weiss in the report that special prosecutors publish when a case is closed.
Other presidents have also pardoned family members. But none have, when doing so, taken the opportunity to discredit Justice Department employees based on false accusations, writes Weiss in the report.
Weiss is referring to the written statement that Joe Biden issued when he, despite having said it would never happen, reversed himself and pardoned his son Hunter in December.
Joe Biden defended the about-face by saying that his son had been subjected to a miscarriage of justice and had been treated unfairly due to his surname in a process that was politically driven.
