The Republican Speaker Mike Johnson and the Democrats' minority leader Hakeem Jeffries are creating a cross-party working group in the House of Representatives. The purpose is to investigate the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, reports CNN.
"The security failures that enabled an assassination attempt on Donald Trump are shocking. As a response to the demands from both parties for answers, we are creating a working group in parliament consisting of seven Republicans and six Democrats to thoroughly investigate the matter", the two say in a joint statement.
Both Republican and Democratic congress members have demanded that Secret Service Chief Kimberly Cheatle resign due to the shots fired at Trump. However, Secret Service has announced that she does not intend to do so.
During the incident on July 13, Trump was shot in the right ear. One person was killed and two were injured.
