Buhajeruk, better known as "Spreen", is a popular streamer in Argentina who has over eight million subscribers on Youtube and five million followers on Instagram. He was recruited by Deportivo Riestra two months ago, and made his first training session with the club last Tuesday.
On Monday, he played his first match.
The whole thing is described by the club's management as a publicity stunt for Deportivo Riestra's main sponsor, an energy drink company.
What happened today was a lack of respect for football, says Braian Romero, striker for the opposing team Velez Sarsfield.
This is a wrong message to society, to children who are trying to do their best. Football is not about this, it's about trying and failing and trying again.
Iván "Spreen" Buhajeruk was part of the starting eleven, but was substituted after just 50 seconds on the pitch. By then, he had not touched the ball, reports The Guardian.
When Milton Céliz, captain of Deportivo Riestra, was asked about Buhajeruk's experience, he replied briefly and concisely:
As a streamer, he's number one.
According to coach Cristian Fabbiani, the match was both the first and last for Buhajeruk.
Velez Sarsfield leads the Argentine league with 43 points. Deportivo Riestra is in ninth place with 31 points. Monday's match ended 1–1.
