Five people were injured when a man in Swiss St. Gallen attacked several neighbors with a machete on Thursday evening.

One of the injured is an infant, the police report.

The police were alerted to the scene after the suspected 34-year-old had attacked a pregnant woman who was on her way to visit her father. The woman's father was seriously injured when he tried to help her.

Neighbors who witnessed what happened followed the perpetrator, who then injured a resident and her three-month-old baby. Neighbors were then able to hold the man until the police arrived and arrested him. Another neighbor was injured during the arrest.

The perpetrator was also injured, according to the police. However, no one is critically injured. The man, who suffers from mental health issues, was previously known to the police.
