The floods affected, among other things, the state capital Yola on Sunday. Local authorities are conducting search and rescue operations and have opened shelters for the homeless.
At the same time, the authorities are warning of further rain and are urging residents in flood-affected areas to move to higher areas, according to OCHA.
Heavy rainfall has hit Nigeria between June and November and often causes dangerous floods that are exacerbated by poor infrastructure and inadequate drainage. Over 200 people have died in floods in the country this year, almost all of them in the north-central state of Niger.
