A bus with Indian pilgrims has driven off the road and crashed into a river about twelve miles west of the capital Kathmandu in Nepal, according to authorities in the district.
27 people died in the accident and 16 were injured.
The bus's roof was torn off when it rolled 150 meters along the mountainous slope and into the Marsyangi River. All on board were Indian citizens, confirms the Indian embassy in Kathmandu.
According to local media, the passengers were on their way to Kathmandu to visit Pashupatinath, a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.
Traffic accidents with many dead and injured are relatively common in Nepal. Both the road network and vehicles are often in poor condition.
