"The wedding of the year" kicks off the first of four days of celebrations in Bombay. World stars and politicians flock to India as Asia's richest man gives away his youngest son.

Anant Ambani, son of the world's ninth richest man Mukesh Ambani, is getting married today to Radhika Merchant, also the child of a very wealthy businessman.

World celebrities, business magnates, and politicians arrived in India's financial capital Bombay (Mumbai) on Friday morning to participate in the four-day celebration. The wedding takes place on Friday, followed by a ceremony on Saturday and a reception on Sunday, reports CNN.

The guest list includes, among others, Bill Gates, John Cena, Kim Kardashian, Mike Tyson, former British Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Tony Blair, Adele, Lana Del Rey, Drake, and David Beckham, according to local and international media reports. The family has not confirmed the guest list themselves.

The police have diverted traffic around the wedding venue from Friday to Monday to handle the influx of guests.

The parties leading up to the wedding have been ongoing throughout the spring, with celebrities, wealthy financiers, and politicians as guests – and entertainment from world stars like Rihanna, Akon, Andrea Bocelli, Katy Perry, and Justin Bieber.

The display of excess has also sparked criticism. Many observers have raised questions about growing inequality in India, where the gap between the rich and the poor is widening.
