According to the organization Environment Agency (EA), which consists of both the government and representatives of agriculture as well as water companies, there is a drought in five of the country's 14 regions. An additional six are suffering from prolonged dry weather with low water reservoirs and damaged crops.

At the same time, England is preparing for the country's fourth heatwave of the summer.

We urge everyone to do their part and contribute to reducing the pressure on our water environment, says Helen Wakeham, water chief at EA.

The levels in the country's water reservoirs are currently at 67.7 percent. The average for the first week of August is 80.5 percent. About half of all rivers had a flow below normal at the same time.

Among farmers, concern is now growing for the coming months.

Some farmers are reporting significant reductions in crops, which is economically devastating for agricultural activities and can have consequences for Britain's total crop, says Rachel Hallos, vice chairman of the agricultural organization National Farmers Union.
