The annual support for the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra is increasing by ten million kronor, after the red-green government in the Västra Götaland Region has decided on a framework reinforcement from 2025.

The purpose of the reinforcement is to "preserve and promote" the orchestra's quality, according to a press release.

The region has also decided on a reinforcement of the cultural budget by 88 million kronor for 2025. Ten of them go to the orchestra, which has thus secured the jobs for the 109 employees, says CEO Anna-Karin Larsson to DN.

It's secured for 2025 and hopefully onwards, even though it will be tough in the long run. But this feels fantastic. Now we can maintain the level of ambition as a national orchestra and recruit the best.

More targeted investments within the cultural budget are expected to be announced in the autumn.

"Securing a vital and thriving cultural life is one of the region's core tasks, and this investment shows our ability to take responsibility even in difficult times", says Carl Forsberg (Green Party), vice chairman of the cultural committee, in the press release.
