Eva Rydberg to Conclude Summer Theater Era Next Year

One summer left – then a theater era is buried. Eva Rydberg does her very last farce next year. The grandchildren want me to take it a bit easier, says the 82-year-old.

For over 30 years, Eva Rydberg has played the lead role and been the driving force behind the summer farces in Helsingborg, first at Fredriksdalsteatern and then last year at Sundspärlan.

But now it's over. She wants to be with her grandchildren and be able to bathe without worrying about getting a cold, she says.

I haven't had a free summer since I was seven years old, I started with children's theater when I was eight. I long for the peace and quiet in the summer and being able to go and bathe when I want to.

Malmberg included

Claes Malmberg will be part of the ensemble and the tickets will be released on Monday, but which production they will do Eva Rydberg is not revealing yet.

There are many who already want to book and we are grateful for that. It may become an old classic, which we will make into a Rydberg/Malmberg performance, that's what I think.

But just because the era of traditional summer farces is coming to an end, it doesn't mean that Eva Rydberg's career is over. She is eager to do something else.

I am open to different suggestions. I have something on my mind, which I haven't said yes to yet. But there are a few things I can continue with. Although I don't want to play summer theater anymore.

Vasa Order

Eva Rydberg participated in Melodifestivalen as recently as 2023 and the year after she received the Vasa Order from the king. She has many irons in the fire and doesn't plan to retire yet. Maybe there will be even more work.

I think it's fun to film and be on TV a bit. I have had to turn down many films and TV series thanks to working during the summers.

So if they need an older lady, just get in touch.
