Sales in the daily goods trade increased by 4.4 percent in August 2024, compared to the same month in 2023, according to the industry organization Swedish Daily Goods Trade's Daily Goods Index.
The inflation rate for food and non-alcoholic beverages was 1.4 percent in August, according to the SCB's Consumer Price Index. The price-adjusted sales trend in the daily goods trade is estimated to be 3.0 percent.
Sales in e-commerce increased by 3.9 percent during the month. Home delivery decreased by 0.3 percent and in-store pickup increased by 9.9 percent. E-commerce's share of daily goods sales amounted to 3.9 percent in August.
"Sales in the daily goods trade increased in August, and it is possible to discern a hope for strengthened purchasing power. We see a continued slowdown in inflation, and August was the eighth consecutive month when the price trend for food and non-alcoholic beverages was lower than the overall inflation rate," says Karin Brynell, CEO of Swedish Daily Goods Trade, in a press release.
