We have investigated the incident and it is the human factor that lies behind the mistake, says chief physician Sonja Sundqvist, according to SVT.
Last year, the patient was examined at the healthcare unit where the person received treatment for a chronic disease. An X-ray examination showed changes in one kidney and a subsequent ultrasound was performed.
A computer tomography was also recommended – but not carried out. Instead, it was first performed a year later when the patient sought care again. Then it was established that the kidney cancer had spread and palliative care was initiated. The patient died this spring.
In the report to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo), the chief physician writes that it is important to detect kidney cancer early in order for it to be curable.
Ivo has not yet made any statement in the matter, according to SVT.
