The situation in Ukraine is very serious, says Minister of Defence Pål Jonson (The Moderate Party) at a press conference.

Sweden, Denmark and Norway have agreed to support a new American initiative called PURL. Ukraine's need for additional military support is great, considering the increased Russian attacks on the military, civilians and infrastructure, Jonson means.

The package includes, among other things, air defence, including missiles to Patriot, anti-tank weapons and ammunition and is coordinated by Nato.

We are procuring defence equipment from the USA and donating it to Ukraine, says Jonson further and means that this is a quick way to deliver defence equipment to Ukraine.

Is this a requirement from the USA for them to continue supporting Ukraine?

They have not expressed themselves in that way, but they have said that it is an opportunity for Europeans to be able to finance American support to Ukraine, especially for the type of defence equipment that Europeans do not possess, says Jonson.

On Monday, the Netherlands announced a similar package. If the USA themselves are going to give any money to PURL, the USA will have to answer for it, says Jonson.

They have support for Ukraine in the intelligence area that continues, and continues to implement some packages. How they want to do it in the future remains to be seen.
