It was in February 2009 that the 19-year-old woman was found dead in her room at a brothel in Amsterdam's Red Light District, brutally murdered with dozens of stab wounds.
The case has remained unsolved, but now the Amsterdam police are making an ambitious final attempt to find the murderer. An entire building in the quarter where she was murdered has been dedicated to the campaign, with large posters and TV screens showing clips from the crime scene.
Most striking: a hologram of the woman in natural size in one of the windows, where she sits on a chair and asks passers-by for help in solving the case. The hologram has also been published on the police's X account.
In combination with a newly produced documentary film and a reward of approximately 350,000 kronor, the police hope for new information.
We hope that witnesses who may have been afraid earlier or kept quiet for other reasons will now have the courage to come forward, says cold case police officer Anne Dreijer-Heemskerk to The Guardian.
