The decision was made on Monday.

We talked to the coaches about an hour ago and we're not going to play the European Championship. We feel that it's been a very long tournament. We're both a bit worn out and have some niggles too, says Hellvig.

He continues:

We won't be able to recharge.

David Åhman notes that the Olympic Games were a very long competition and that the duo has had all their focus on that. Therefore, it's going to be a no thanks to the European Championship this week.

If we're going to play the European Championship, we have to be there tomorrow, Tuesday, and sign up, and then the competition starts. We're worn out and tired and have some niggles. We feel that it's not going to benefit us to be there and play, says he.

Was it a tough decision?

Yes, of course. The European Championship is very fun to participate in and play, so it's clear that it was a tough decision, says Hellvig.

The duo is now back on Swedish soil after the historic gold medal in Paris. Worn out after a few intense days and still very happy.

It's great to be home now! We've been in the OS village since before the Olympic Games until the end. Really nice to get home and sleep in our own beds now, says Åhman with a smile.
