The Britons' central bank, the Bank of England, has left the interest rate unchanged at 5.25 per cent, as expected.
The leadership was not in agreement, with two out of nine members wanting to lower it.
Thus, the interest rate remains at its highest level in 16 years, despite the latest statistics showing that inflation has fallen to the two per cent target. The central bank, however, warns that higher service prices still cause concern.
The bank is leaving the door open for a reduction by the end of the summer.
