The rock band Eagles' singer and drummer Don Henley filed a lawsuit on Friday to regain his handwritten song lyrics from the hit album "Hotel California".
He claims that the lyrics were stolen during a burglary in the 1970s, and in March, three men were charged with attempting to sell the lyrics further. However, the prosecutor chose to drop the case against the men, who claim to have bought the lyrics in good faith. Since the case was dropped, the handwritten lyrics have been kept by a district attorney pending a decision on who they belong to.
"These 100 pages of personal lyrics belong to Mr. Henley and his family, and he has never given anyone else permission to sell them for profit," his lawyer writes in an email.
"Hotel California", released in 1976, is the third best-selling album of all time in the USA.
