The Government has appointed Rikard Jermsten as the new Director-General of the Economic Crime Authority (EBM) with approximately 700 employees. He comes from the same position at the Competition Authority.
Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) expects, among other things, that Jermsten "increases the pressure" regarding the crime investigation activities.
We are now mobilizing to strangle the criminal economy. It is crucial for us to be able to tackle organized crime. Here, EBM has a central role, says Strömmer.
The Government has previously appointed an inquiry to review the entire EBM operation.
TT: Can EBM be incorporated into the Prosecution Authority?
That is not the starting point for the inquiry. The inquiry has been tasked with reviewing the combating of economic crime and submitting proposals for reforms, says Strömmer.
Now that we are appointing Rikard Jermsten as Director-General, we confirm the authority's importance.
