You get a little taken. To be here among so many who are your childhood idols, you lose a little grip. Just being in the top division is an enormous, enormous, enormous pride, said Fredrik Holmberg when he received the prize.
Newcomer Gais finished in a strong sixth place in the top division.
I know I'm a beginner at this level, but I think I'm here because of what we've done in Gais. Team spirit when it's at its best. A club that works together, said Holmberg.
"Incredibly fine prize"
MFF won the top division for the second year in a row, eleven points ahead of Hammarby and AIK. The best player of the year became MFF's Sebastian Nanasi, who earlier in the evening had received the prize as the best midfielder.
It's an incredibly fine prize and I'm sickly proud to receive it as well, said Nanasi.
This season, the 22-year-old scored six goals and made ten assists (most assists of all) before leaving for French Ligue 1 club Strasbourg after 17 top division matches.
Earlier in the evening, his teammate Pontus Jansson received the prize as the best defender.
The best goalkeeper became Warner Hahn, Hammarby, and the best forward became Brommapojkarna's Nikola Vasic, who won the top scorer title with 17 goals. The best young player became Djurgården's Samuel Dahl.
Nordahl "player of the century"
This year, the top division celebrated 100 years and therefore the prize "player of the century" was awarded. The prize went to Gunnar Nordahl, who began his top division career in Degerfors 1940 and continued in IFK Norrköping before becoming the first Swede to sign for a European professional club in the form of Milan in 1949.
If dad were here today, he would have been happy, said son Thomas Nordahl when he received the nomination.
Gunnar Nordahl (1921–1995) won the top division top scorer title four times and took four Swedish championship titles with IFK Norrköping. In Milan, he won the Serie A top scorer title five times and the league title twice.
