"Hammarskjöld" has now been seen by over 500,000 visitors at cinemas in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland. In Denmark, the film went straight to the top of the box office, which is very unusual for a Swedish film, according to the Swedish Film Institute.
"It's so delightful for us that a Swedish film can reach such a wide audience at cinemas all over the Nordic region", says producer Patrick Ryborn in a press release.
"Hammarskjöld" is based on Dag Hammarskjöld's, Swedish Secretary-General of the UN, last weeks of life before he died in a plane crash in 1961. The film was shot, among other places, in Trollhättan, South Africa, and New York, and was nominated for seven Golden Bugs earlier this year.
