One person has been detained, suspected of gross arms smuggling, following an operation at the Öresund Bridge, according to the Customs Service to TT.

"It's an extremely initial stage. I can't say more right now due to ongoing investigation secrecy", writes Michaela Linderoth, press secretary at the Customs Service, in an email.

According to information provided to Sydsvenskan, several hand grenades, two automatic weapons, and two pistols were found in a German-registered car during the operation. The newspaper also reports that a woman was arrested.

It was on Wednesday evening that the police and national bomb squad were deployed to the Öresund Bridge toll station in Malmö to investigate a suspected find. SVT Nyheter Skåne also reported yesterday that it involved hand grenades in a car driving from Sweden towards Denmark.
