The prices of global food commodities fell in December compared to the previous month, according to new statistics from the UN's food agency FAO.
According to FAO's food price index, prices fell by 0.5 percent compared to November, although the increase is 6.7 percent on an annual basis, i.e. compared to December the previous year.
In 2024, a price drop is particularly noticeable for various cereals as well as sugar, while the price of dairy products has developed in the opposite direction.
