The order intake for the German industry fell unexpectedly in May, down by 1.6 percent compared to April. Analysts had on average expected an increase in order intake of 0.5 percent.

The order intake has thus fallen for five months in a row and the decline compared to May 2023 is 8.6 percent.

The decline reinforces the unexpectedly gloomy picture of Germany's economic recovery.
