Alexander Morris, singer in The Four Tops, is suing a hospital in Detroit after staff refused to believe he actually sang in the legendary soul group, reports BBC.
According to the lawsuit, doctors assessed Morris as mentally ill and suffering from delusions. As a result, a lung infection and an ongoing heart attack were missed.
Since Alexander Morris is 53 years old and only joined The Four Tops in 2019, several decades after the band's heyday, hospital staff did not believe him when he expressed concern that stalkers and fans might show up at the hospital. Staff put him in a straitjacket and a security guard allegedly subjected him to racist abuse.
Morris writes in the lawsuit that he had difficulty breathing but staff refused to give him oxygen.
In the end, when Morris played a clip of himself singing at the American Grammy Awards, he was finally believed. The hospital then offered him a gift voucher, which he declined.
