Emil Forsberg back from start – goal scorer directly

Emil Forsberg was left out of the Swedish national team due to poor form. A few hours later, the 32-year-old responded by becoming the match hero for New York Red Bulls.

Forsberg scored himself 1–0 on a penalty and was also involved in the 2–0 goal when New York defeated Toronto FC 4–1 in the American football league MLS during the night against Thursday.

A fine message for the Swedish midfielder, who has had injury problems during the autumn and recently made a comeback. Now he played from the start for the first time since the beginning of June.

It's fantastic to play with him, he has played at the very highest level, says teammate Lewis Morgan to the website Front Row Soccer after the match.

Having him back is a big boost for everyone. He is our team captain and he really stepped forward tonight, especially when he scored the penalty that gave us a perfect start.

Emil Forsberg was one of the biggest names missing when Sweden's national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson presented the squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Slovakia and Estonia on Wednesday.

He has been injured for a long time and has just come back, he is extremely good and an experienced player, so now he needs to get in shape in his club. It was a tough decision, but he wanted to stay and build up physically, commented Tomasson on the decision.
