During his visit, al-Sharaa is to meet the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Syrian authorities hope that the wealthy Gulf states will help finance the rebuilding of the war-torn country.
Ahmed al-Sharaa led the overthrow of dictator Bashar al-Assad's regime in December. Earlier in the week, he was formally appointed as the country's transitional president, and is to form a transitional government until a new constitution is in place.
Saudi Arabia was one of the countries that supported Syrian rebel groups in their fight against the now-deposed dictator Bashar al-Assad. The country's King Salman and Crown Prince bin Salman were also among the first to congratulate al-Sharaa on his presidential appointment.
