In his first official trip abroad after the fall of the Assad regime in Syria, Ahmed al-Shaara traveled to Saudi Arabia to meet the powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
"We had a long meeting where we felt and heard a genuine will (from Saudi Arabia) to support Syria as we build the country's future", wrote Syria's leader, who was formally appointed as the country's transitional president earlier this week, on Telegram.
Ahmed al-Sharaa's trip to Saudi Arabia was a clear marking against Iran, which supported the ousted dictator Bashar al-Assad. Saudi Arabia was one of the countries that supported Syrian rebel groups in the fight against the Assad regime.
