Over 94,000 signatures have been submitted to the Finnish government in protest against cuts in the cultural budget, according to Culture News on Swedish Radio.
The campaign is called "Stop the Axe", and demonstrations have also been held in several parts of the country. For example, 2,000 people gathered in Helsinki to protest against upcoming savings. The government is to save over 17 million euros in the art and culture sector.
What is being saved on culture is a small part of the budget, but it is felt by the cultural community, according to several of those participating in the protests.
For art and culture, it is significant and causes great harm, says dancer Titta Court to the radio.
