The proportion of students who graduate from vocational programs within three years has decreased from 75.9 percent last year to 74.7 percent this year, according to a press release from the Swedish National Agency for Education.

"One of the reasons for this decline is that among the students who completed upper secondary school this spring, fewer passed the mathematics 1 course than the previous year. A student must have a passing grade in that course to receive a diploma," says Christina Sandström, unit manager at the Swedish National Agency for Education in the press release.

Students who graduated from upper secondary school this year were also affected by the pandemic during their high school years, including cancelled national exams. Mathematics instruction was also difficult to implement remotely, and absenteeism was high in the subject.
