Darmanin delivers the message on the social platform X and thanks the police for the arrest.

A police officer was injured in the attack on the synagogue, according to an AFP official.

The explosion, which occurred in the town of La Motte near Montpellier, happened when two cars were set on fire. The rescue service discovered several fires at two entrances to the synagogue, and a police officer who arrived was injured when a gas tank in one of the vehicles exploded, the anti-terror prosecutor's office announced in a statement.

Five people, including the rabbi, were in the synagogue but escaped unharmed.

The prosecutors consider the explosion to be a suspected planned terrorist crime with links to a terrorist group aimed at causing harm.

French President Emmanuel Macron assures that everything is being done to find the perpetrator.

The fight against anti-Semitism is a struggle that is constantly ongoing, says Macron according to Le Figaro.

Interior Minister Darmanin has ordered reinforcements to protect Jewish buildings after the incident, which he calls an "obviously criminal act".

During the first half of 2024, 887 anti-Semitic acts occurred in France, nearly three times as many as during the same period in 2023, Darmanin announced earlier this month.
