Every third Swede wants to ban Tiktok

34 percent of Swedes want to ban Tiktok. This is shown by a Novus survey, which was conducted on behalf of TV4 News. Even the Liberals and the Christian Democrats want to ban the popular app – if it doesn't get new owners.

The Swedish people are divided on the issue of a Tiktok ban. While more than a third believe that the social media app should be banned, 39 percent think it should be allowed. 27 percent have no fixed opinion or are unsure about the issue.

In the USA, Congress decided last year that Chinese-owned Tiktok would be banned if the app did not get American owners by January this year, but the new President Donald Trump temporarily repealed the decision.

There is currently no political basis for a similar law in Sweden. Only the Christian Democrats and the Liberals demand that Tiktok be banned in Sweden and the rest of the EU – unless the European part of the company is sold to "safer owners".

The toxic algorithms harm young people, but also pose a security risk to Sweden's security. For Europe's security, it must be restricted, says the Liberal Party leader Johan Pehrson (L) to TV4 News.
