Jakob Ingebrigtsen won his first gold at the European Championship indoors in Apeldoorn when the Norwegian athletics star won the final on 1,500 meters with a time of 3.36,56.
It means a lot, says Ingebrigtsen to SVT.
Swede Samuel Pihlström, who had the sixth best qualifying time, also finished sixth in the final with a time of 3.39,07.
Sixth – it's not extremely bad, it's not extremely good. But I wanted to give myself a chance to go for a medal today, and it didn't quite work out. But a sixth place in itself – it's a pretty good performance anyway, says Pihlström to SVT.
After two laps, Pihlström took the lead.
It felt good, then Jakob (Ingebrigtsen) came and pulled directly with someone there. He pulled too much and I got stuck a bit with two laps left. I lost a bit too much position to be able to fight for the medals, says he.
On Saturday, Ingebrigtsen will run the qualifying round on 3,000 meters.
I take one race at a time and focus on my own preparations, my own performances, says Ingebrigtsen.
