Drug Crimes Increase – But Thefts Decrease

Narcotics crimes increased sharply so far this year compared to the previous year. During the first half of the year, 68,448 narcotics crimes were reported, an increase of 17 percent compared to the same period last year.

This is shown by the Swedish Crime Prevention Council's (Brå) statistics on reported crimes during the first half of 2024.

The type of crime behind the increase in narcotics crimes is possession, which increased by as much as 36 percent.

Vandalism has also increased during the period. It was graffiti against public transportation and vandalism against the state, municipality, and region that increased the most.

The number of reported assault crimes increased by two percent overall. Assault against women and against men increased equally.

Theft and embezzlement crimes, on the other hand, decreased by seven percent. Among the categories that decreased the most is theft from vehicles, which decreased by as much as 26 percent.
