The reason for the ship running aground was that the crew relied solely on a navigation method and the GPS system stopped working. The personnel had inadequate training in both navigation systems and safety organization systems.
After the accident, the accident investigation commission directed six safety recommendations to the shipping company, which has since accounted for the measures that have been implemented and planned. This includes, among other things, training of personnel and sufficient practice of emergency scenarios.
The accident investigation commission has also recommended that the government investigate how society's ability to handle larger ship accidents can be strengthened.
The grounding resulted in approximately 60,000 liters of oil leaking out, the beaches along Listerlandet in Blekinge were smeared and birds were injured.
