The free concert was held in collaboration with Göteborgskalaset. “No ticket is needed, the concert is open to anyone who wants to join,” festival communications officer Linn Enckell told GP.
The concert meant that police had to boost staffing in central Gothenburg at short notice. Police became aware of the Saturday afternoon concert late on Friday evening.
“We have a specially designated personnel resource that will work solely on this concert today. Our assessment is that overall we have plenty of resources for this concert,” police spokesperson Emelie Lundqvist said earlier on Saturday.
The disappointment among the tens of thousands who had tickets and made their way to Ullevi on Friday is clear. “Waited for a concert for months. Went there, prepared for bad weather. The news that the concert is canceled is incredibly frustrating,” wrote one person in GP's chat.
What happens with compensation is still unclear. They will receive information from Live Nation about what applies, Swedish House Mafia writes.
Saturday night's gig at Ullevi will take place as planned.
